Trauma-Informed Evangelism: Cultivating Communities of Wounded Healers

“Can I tell you about how the church has harmed me?”

This question, posed by a nonreligious neighbor several years ago, sent me on a journey to learn about spiritual abuse and trauma, how to think theologically about it, and how to be a trauma-informed pastor and evangelist. I want to help the church learn how to love its neighbors well, particularly those who carry the weight of spiritual abuse and trauma.
